It is 03:24 at night and I just decoded an APRS beacon on 144.8 MHz FM directly from LA6IOA-7 in Norway, 786 kilometres away.
The last time I received an APRS signal from that far away was when I was on top of a 2000 meter high Italian mountain in my car.
This signal however was received in my home QTH with my base vertical antenna.
There must be sporadic E or something because this distance is absolutely extraordinary.
I use a Kenwood TM-D710GE and it highlights a DX station by beeping and showing DX! on screen which is very convenient.
